Headshots

February 16th, 2010 · No Comments · Blog, Photography

So I’ve never really done headshots with strobes before. Why not try and figure it for the first time ever while I’m doing headshots for a theatre production? No big deal really I guess. Fiddle around with knobs and buttons and stands until something looks good on the LCD screen and more importantly looks good through the viewfinder. I used 2 strobes, one through a big shoot-through umbrella as a main light on camera left and another strobe with a Softbox III as a back light/hair light type deal. In retrospect I probably should have put a snoot on it I think. Wish I would have had more time to play around with things, but hey I can’t complain with the results:

Overall I learned a lot about how to talk to people, and what happens when you can’t connect with a person while you are shooting them. Totally awkward things can happen. Be personable and you will get much better reactions from people. Also make all your light sources the same balance/color. I had to gel both my flashes to match the soft tungsten lights overhead.
